Neuenkirchen is a municipality in the district of Steinfurt, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, located approximately 10 km (6 mi) north of Rheine and 20 km (12 mi) south of Lingen. The municipality has a population of around 14,000 and covers an area of 45.77 km2 (17.67 sq mi). The municipality was first mentioned in 1188 and received town privileges in 1327. The municipality is known for its historic town center, which features a number of well-preserved buildings from the 16th and 17th centuries. The municipality is also home to a number of churches, including the St. Dionysius Church, which was built in the 13th century.
