Nanawa is a small town in the Presidente Hayes department of Paraguay, located on the banks of the Paraguay River, at an elevation of 59 meters. The weather in Nanawa is humid subtropical, with hot summers and mild winters. The average temperature is 23°C (73°F), and the average annual rainfall is 1,500 mm (59 in). The town was founded in 1932 during the Chaco War between Paraguay and Bolivia. It is named after Lieutenant Colonel José Félix Estigarribia, who was killed in the Battle of Nanawa. The town is home to a number of historical sites, including the Museum of the Chaco War and the Estigarribia Mausoleum.
