Murfreesboro is a town in Hertford County, North Carolina, United States, with a population of 2,851 as of the 2020 census. Located in the coastal plain region of the state, Murfreesboro has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. The town was founded in 1760 and named after Colonel Hardy Murfree, a Revolutionary War hero. Murfreesboro is home to the Meherrin Indian Tribe, one of the eight state-recognized Native American tribes in North Carolina.
