It is located at an elevation of 591 meters (1,939 feet) above sea level, on the southern edge of the Black Forest. The town has a population of around 4,000 people. The town was first mentioned in a document in 1135. It was part of the Duchy of Zähringen until 1218, when it became part of the County of Freiburg. In 1806, Mühlhausen-Ehingen became part of the Grand Duchy of Baden. The town is home to a number of historical buildings, including the Church of St. Martin, which was built in the 15th century.
