Mount Vernon is a city located in the southern part of Westchester County, New York, United States. It is situated along the Hutchinson River and Long Island Sound, just north of New York City. The city has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Mount Vernon was founded in 1664 by English settlers and was named after Admiral Edward Vernon, a British naval officer who served during the War of the Spanish Succession.
