Mount Juliet is part of the Nashville metropolitan area. The city is named after Mount Juliet, a nearby hill that was named after Juliet, the heroine of William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet. The city was founded in 1835 and incorporated in 1966. Mount Juliet has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. The city is home to several parks and recreation areas, including the Mount Juliet Municipal Park and the Providence Recreation Area.
