Motozintla de Mendoza, also known as Motozintla, is a municipality in the Sierra Madre de Chiapas, Mexico. The municipality has a warm, humid climate with an average temperature of 22.5°C (72.5°F). The municipality was founded in 1528 by the Spanish conquistador Diego de Mazariegos and was originally named San Francisco Motozintla. The municipality is home to a number of historical sites, including the Church of San Francisco de Asís, which was built in the 16th century. The municipality is also home to a number of indigenous communities, including the Mam, Tzeltal, and Tojolabal peoples.
