Monesterio is a municipality in the province of Badajoz, Extremadura, Spain. It is located in the southwest of the province, in the Sierra Morena mountains. The weather is Mediterranean, with hot summers and mild winters. The town has a rich history, dating back to the Roman era. It was an important center of the Visigothic kingdom, and later became part of the Moorish kingdom of Córdoba. After the Reconquista, it was granted to the Order of Santiago, which built the castle that still stands today. Monesterio is also home to a number of churches and convents, including the Church of San Pedro, which is a National Monument.
