Markala, Ségou, Mali is a town in the Ségou Region of central Mali, situated on the Niger River at the southern end of the Inner Niger Delta. The town has a tropical savanna climate with an average temperature of 28.3°C and an average annual rainfall of 542 mm. Markala was founded in the 19th century as a trading post and has since become an important agricultural center, known for its rice production. The town is also home to the Markala Dam, which was built in the 1940s to control flooding and provide irrigation for the surrounding area.
