Margency is a commune in the Val-d'Oise department in the Île-de-France region in northern France. It is located in the northwestern suburbs of Paris, 17.6 km (10.9 mi) from the center of Paris. The climate of Margency is temperate oceanic, with mild winters and warm summers. The average annual temperature is 11 °C (52 °F), and the average annual rainfall is 630 mm (25 in). Margency was first mentioned in a charter from 1124, and it was originally a fief of the Abbey of Saint-Denis. The town grew in the 12th and 13th centuries, and it was fortified in the 14th century. Margency was sacked by the English during the Hundred Years' War, and it was rebuilt in the 15th century. The town was again damaged during the Franco-Prussian War, and it was rebuilt in the 19th century. Margency is home to several historical monuments, including the Church of Saint-Martin, the Château de Margency, and the Château de la Motte.
