Mansfield City is a small city in Tolland County, Connecticut, United States, with a population of 26,543 as of the 2020 census. It is located in eastern Connecticut, approximately 25 miles (40 kilometers) east of Hartford, the state capital. The city has a humid continental climate, with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Mansfield City was founded in 1702 and was originally known as the town of Coventry. The city was renamed Mansfield in 1849 after General Joseph Mansfield, a hero of the War of 1812. Mansfield City is home to the University of Connecticut, the state's flagship public university.
