Manhattan, Illinois, also known as Mankhehtten or Манхэттен, is a village in Cook County, Illinois, located approximately 30 miles southwest of Chicago. The village has a humid continental climate with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Manhattan was founded in 1834 by a group of settlers from New York, who named the town after the borough of Manhattan in New York City. The village has a rich history and heritage, with many of its original buildings still standing today.
