Manchester is a town in Ontario County, New York, United States. The town is located in the western part of the county, and is bordered by the towns of Gorham to the north, Farmington to the east, Canandaigua to the south, and Phelps to the west. The town has a total area of 35.8 square miles, of which 34.9 square miles is land and 0.9 square miles is water. The population of the town was 9,582 at the 2010 census. The town was first settled in 1789 by a group of Quakers from Pennsylvania. The town was named after Manchester, England. The town is home to the Canandaigua Outlet, which is a popular fishing and kayaking destination. The town is also home to the Sonnenberg Gardens and Mansion State Historic Park, which is a popular tourist destination.
