Malalag, also known as Malalag Beach, is a municipality in the province of Davao del Sur, Philippines. It is located at the southernmost tip of the Davao Gulf, approximately 45 kilometers from the city of Davao. The municipality has a tropical climate, with an average temperature of 27 degrees Celsius. Malalag was founded in 1875 by a group of settlers from the neighboring town of Malita. It was originally named "Malalag Grande" to distinguish it from the smaller settlement of "Malalag Pequeno" (now known as Malita). Malalag has a rich cultural heritage, with many of its traditions and customs dating back to the pre-colonial era.
