Mabscott, West Virginia, is a small town located in Raleigh County, approximately 10 miles southeast of Beckley. The town has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. It was established in 1907 and named after Mabel Scott, the daughter of a local landowner. Mabscott has a rich coal mining history and is home to the Mabscott Mine Disaster Memorial, which commemorates the 1926 mining disaster that claimed the lives of 37 miners.
