Lucerne, California is a small town located in San Bernardino County, California, United States, at the southern tip of Lucerne Valley, just north of the San Bernardino Mountains. The town is situated at an elevation of 2,926 feet (892 m) and has a population of 3,372 as of the 2010 census. The climate in Lucerne is characterized by hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The average annual temperature is 58.3 °F (14.6 °C), and the average annual precipitation is 14.92 inches (379 mm). The town was founded in 1883 as a railroad town on the Southern Pacific Railroad. Lucerne was named after the Swiss city of Lucerne, and the town's early settlers were mostly Swiss immigrants. Lucerne is home to a number of historic buildings, including the Lucerne Valley Museum, which houses a collection of artifacts from the town's history.
