The town has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Loris was founded in 1887 and was named after the Greek word for "little hill." The town has a rich history and heritage, and is home to several historic sites, including the Loris Cotton Mill and the Loris Bog-Off Festival.
