Loos has a rich history, dating back to the Middle Ages. The town was part of the County of Flanders until it was ceded to France in 1668. Loos was the site of a major battle during World War I, in which the British Army suffered heavy losses. The town was heavily damaged during the war, but was rebuilt after the war. Loos is home to several historical monuments, including the Church of Saint-Vaast, which dates back to the 12th century.
