Lomonosov, formerly known as Oranienbaum, is a town in Russia, located on the southern shore of the Gulf of Finland, 40 km west of Saint Petersburg. The town has a humid continental climate with warm summers and cold, snowy winters. Lomonosov was founded in 1710 by Peter the Great as a naval base and shipyard. In the 18th century, it became a popular summer residence for the Russian nobility, and many palaces and mansions were built in the town. Today, Lomonosov is a popular tourist destination, known for its beautiful architecture, parks, and museums.
