Levelland is a city in Hockley County, Texas, United States. It is located in the southern High Plains region of the state, approximately 30 miles (48 km) northwest of Lubbock. The city has a population of 13,280 as of the 2020 census. Levelland was founded in 1912 as a railroad town and was named after Lev Elliott, a local landowner. The city's economy is based on agriculture, oil and gas production, and manufacturing. Levelland has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. The city is home to South Plains College, a two-year community college.
