Leporano is a town in the province of Taranto, in the Apulia region of southeastern Italy. It is located on the Ionian Sea coast, about 10 kilometers (6 miles) south of Taranto. The town has a Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Leporano has a rich history, dating back to the ancient Greek period. It was once a Roman colony, and later became part of the Byzantine Empire. In the Middle Ages, it was ruled by the Normans, the Hohenstaufens, and the Angevins. In the 16th century, it became part of the Kingdom of Naples, and later of the Kingdom of Italy. Today, Leporano is a popular tourist destination, known for its beautiful beaches, its historic center, and its traditional cuisine.
