Leoti was founded in 1887 as a stop on the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad. The town's economy is based on agriculture, with wheat, corn, and soybeans being the main crops. Leoti is also home to the Leoti Encampment, a historical site that was once a major stop on the Santa Fe Trail.
