Laas, also known as Lasa, is a municipality in the province of South Tyrol in northern Italy, located in the upper Vinschgau Valley at an elevation of 883 meters (2,897 ft). The climate is Alpine, with warm summers and cold winters, and the area has a rich history dating back to the Roman Empire. Laas is famous for its marble quarries, which have been exploited since ancient times and have produced some of the finest marble in the world, used in buildings such as the Duomo di Milano and the Hofburg Palace in Vienna.
