Lancaster, also known as Lankaster, is a city in the Antelope Valley of northern Los Angeles County, California, United States. Lancaster is located in the western Mojave Desert, approximately 70 miles (110 km) north of downtown Los Angeles. The city's climate is characterized by hot, dry summers and mild winters, with an average annual temperature of 62.8 °F (17.1 °C). Lancaster was founded in 1885 as a railroad town and has since grown into a major aerospace and manufacturing center. The city is home to Edwards Air Force Base, the primary flight test facility for the United States Air Force, and is also a major center for the production of aircraft and spacecraft components.
