The climate is temperate, with hot summers and cold winters. The village has a long history, dating back to the Byzantine period. It was once an important center of the silk trade. Today, Kristóni is a quiet village with a population of around 500 people. The village is home to a number of historical sites, including the ruins of a Byzantine church and a 19th-century Ottoman mosque.
