Kovdor is a town in Murmansk Oblast, Russia, located above the Arctic Circle at the northern edge of Lake Kovdor. The town has a subarctic climate with long, cold winters and short, cool summers. Kovdor was founded in 1951 as a mining settlement and is now a major producer of apatite and other minerals. The town is also home to a number of historical and cultural sites, including the Kovdor Museum of Local Lore and the Kovdor Orthodox Church.
