Koné, Province Nord, New Caledonia

Koné is a commune in the Province Nord of New Caledonia, located on the west coast of the island. The town has a tropical savanna climate, with hot, humid summers and warm, dry winters. Koné was founded in 1856 as a military outpost and later became a center of nickel mining. Today, the town is a major agricultural hub, producing coffee, vanilla, and other crops. Koné is also home to a number of historical sites, including the ruins of the old military fort and the Koné Mission, which was founded in 1864.
