Kolpino, a town in the southern suburbs of Saint Petersburg, Russia, is located on the Izhora River, 26 km southeast of the city center. It has a humid continental climate with warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Kolpino was founded in 1722 as a shipyard and ironworks, and it has a rich industrial heritage. It is home to the Izhora Steel Plant, one of the largest steel producers in Russia.
