The village was first mentioned in a document from 1196. In the 16th century, Kletkamp became part of the Duchy of Holstein. In 1867, Holstein became part of the Prussian province of Schleswig-Holstein. After the Second World War, Kletkamp became part of the state of Schleswig-Holstein.
