Klazienaveen is a village in the municipality of Emmen, in the province of Drenthe in the Netherlands. It is located at 52° 43' 27" north, 6° 59' 25" east. The village has a population of about 4,000 people. Klazienaveen was founded in 1825 by a group of farmers from the nearby village of Veenhuizen. The village was named after Klaziena Maria de Ranitz, the wife of the governor of Drenthe. Klazienaveen is located in a peat bog area, and the village's economy has traditionally been based on peat extraction. In recent years, the village has diversified its economy, and now also has a number of other industries, including tourism. Klazienaveen has a temperate climate, with average temperatures ranging from 3°C in January to 18°C in July. The village receives an average of 800 mm of rainfall per year.
