Kizel is a town in Perm Krai, Russia, located on the Kizel River, 230 km north of Perm. The town has a population of 16,000 (2021) and is known for its coal mining industry. The climate in Kizel is continental, with cold winters and warm summers. The average temperature in January is -15 °C (5 °F), while the average temperature in July is +18 °C (64 °F). The town was founded in 1757 and was originally called Kizelovsky Zavod. In the 19th century, Kizel became a major center of the coal mining industry in the Urals. The town is home to several historical and cultural landmarks, including the Kizel Museum of Local Lore and the Church of the Holy Trinity.
