Kirksville, Missouri, is a small city located in the northeastern part of the state, approximately 200 miles northwest of St. Louis. The city has a humid continental climate with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Kirksville was founded in 1849 and named after Jesse Kirk, a local farmer who donated land for the town site. The city is home to Truman State University and A.T. Still University, the world's first osteopathic medical school. Kirksville has a rich history and heritage, including its role as a stop on the Pony Express and its designation as a National Historic Landmark.
