It is located in the Sauerland region, approximately 30 kilometers south of Dortmund. The municipality has a population of around 12,000 and covers an area of 147 square kilometers. The climate in Kirchhundem is temperate, with average temperatures ranging from 3°C in January to 17°C in July. The municipality has a rich history, dating back to the 11th century.
