Khankala, also known as Hankala, is a village in the Grozny District of Chechnya, Russia. It is located on the right bank of the Sunzha River, about 10 kilometers west of the city of Grozny. The village has a population of about 1,500 people and is home to a Russian military base. The climate of Khankala is humid continental, with hot summers and cold winters. The average temperature in July is 23.5 degrees Celsius, while the average temperature in January is -2.5 degrees Celsius. The village has a long history, dating back to the 13th century. It was once part of the Khanate of Kazan, and later became part of the Russian Empire. In the 19th century, Khankala was a major center of the Chechen resistance to Russian rule.
