Karnes City, Texas, is a city in Karnes County with a population of 3,238. It is located in the southern part of the state, about 50 miles southeast of San Antonio. The climate is humid subtropical, with hot, humid summers and mild winters. The city was founded in 1881 by German immigrants and is named after Henry Karnes, a Texas Ranger who fought in the Mexican-American War. The city's heritage is reflected in its architecture, which includes many historic buildings, and in its annual Karnes County German Heritage Festival.
