Kalach is a town in Voronezh Oblast, Russia, located on the right bank of the Don River at the confluence of the Kalach River. The town has a humid continental climate with warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Kalach was founded in 1586 as a fortress to protect the southern border of the Russian state. In the 18th century, Kalach became a major trading center on the Don River. The town is known for its traditional Russian bread, known as kalach.
