Juḩr ad Dīk is a town in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, with a population of 42,584. The town is located 3 kilometers (1.9 mi) southeast of Khan Yunis, and 2 kilometers (1.2 mi) from the Mediterranean Sea. The climate is hot and dry in the summer, and mild and rainy in the winter. Juḩr ad Dīk was founded in the 15th century by Bedouin tribes, and was originally known as "Khan al-Dik". The town was later renamed to "Juḩr ad Dīk" in the 19th century. Juḩr ad Dīk is home to a number of historical sites, including the Great Mosque of Juḩr ad Dīk, which was built in the 16th century.
