Inverness is a city in Citrus County, Florida, United States. It is located at the crossroads of U.S. Highway 41 and State Road 44, about 50 miles (80 km) north of Tampa. The city has a population of about 7,000 people. The climate is subtropical, with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Inverness was founded in 1882 by a group of settlers from Inverness, Scotland. The city is home to the Citrus County Historical Museum, which houses a collection of artifacts and documents related to the history of the county.
