Hoxie has a rich history dating back to the 1800s when it was a major stop on the Smoky Hill Trail, a major trade route between the Missouri River and the Rocky Mountains. The city was named after H.M. Hoxie, a railroad official who helped establish the town in 1887. Hoxie is known for its agricultural heritage, with farming and ranching being the primary industries in the area.
