Homorodu de Jos is a commune in Harghita County, Romania, located in the Székely Land historical region of Transylvania. The commune has a population of 4,494 people and is composed of four villages: Homorodu de Jos, Homorodu de Mijloc, Homorodu de Sus, and Şoimuș. The commune is situated on the banks of the Homorod River, a tributary of the Mureș River. The climate is temperate continental, with cold winters and warm summers. The average temperature in January is -2.5 °C (27.5 °F), and the average temperature in July is 20 °C (68 °F). The commune has a rich history and heritage, with evidence of human habitation dating back to the Neolithic period. The area was first mentioned in written records in 1214, and it was part of the Kingdom of Hungary until 1526, when it became part of the Principality of Transylvania. In 1867, Transylvania became part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and in 1918, it became part of Romania.
