It is located in the Nassau Nature Park, on the Aar River, approximately 10 km northwest of Diez and 15 km east of Limburg an der Lahn. The climate is temperate, with average temperatures ranging from 2°C in January to 18°C in July. Holzappel was first mentioned in a document in 1129 and received town rights in 1324. It has a rich history, with many well-preserved historical buildings, including the 13th-century Liebfrauenkirche and the 16th-century Schloss Holzappel.
