Holtsville is a hamlet and census-designated place in the Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County, New York, United States. It is located on Long Island, approximately 50 miles (80 km) east of Manhattan. The area has a humid continental climate with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. The area was originally inhabited by the Algonquian Native Americans, and was later settled by Europeans in the 17th century. The community is named after George Holt, who established a tavern there in 1830.
