It experiences a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild, dry winters. The city was founded in 1901 as a railroad town and named after Garret A. Hobart, the 24th Vice President of the United States. Hobart has a rich heritage and is known for its historic buildings, including the Hobart Carnegie Library and the Kiowa County Courthouse.
