Hernando, Mississippi is a city located in DeSoto County, Mississippi, United States. It is part of the Memphis metropolitan area and is situated approximately 12 miles (19 kilometers) south of Memphis, Tennessee. The city has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Hernando was founded in 1836 and was named after Hernando de Soto, a Spanish explorer who visited the area in the 16th century. The city has a rich history and heritage, with many historic buildings and sites, including the Hernando Courthouse and the Hernando Presbyterian Church.
