Hennessey is a town in Kingfisher County, Oklahoma, United States, with a population of 2,131 as of the 2010 census. It is located at 36.1092°N 97.8987°W, in the central part of the state, about 50 miles (80 km) northwest of Oklahoma City. The town was founded in 1889 and named after John L. Hennessey, a railroad official. Hennessey is located in the Great Plains region of the United States and has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. The town is home to a number of historic buildings, including the Hennessey Depot, which was built in 1890 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Hennessey is also home to the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame, which honors Oklahoma's greatest athletes and sports figures.
