The city has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. It was founded in 1833 as a trading post and port on the Mississippi River and was incorporated as a city in 1866. Helena-West Helena has a rich history and heritage, having been a major center of cotton production and the home of several notable figures, including blues musician Robert Johnson.
