Havana, Illinois, is a small city located in Mason County, at the confluence of the Illinois and Spoon Rivers. The city has a humid continental climate with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Havana was founded in 1824 by James Latham and was named after the capital of Cuba, Havana. The city played a significant role in the Underground Railroad during the American Civil War and is home to the Havana Underground Railroad Museum.
