Hauppauge is located in the town of Islip, and is approximately 45 miles (72 km) east of Manhattan. The climate is humid subtropical, with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Hauppauge was originally inhabited by the Algonquian-speaking Native Americans. The area was first settled by Europeans in the 17th century. Hauppauge is home to a number of businesses, including the headquarters of Cablevision, Nikon, and Canon USA.
