Hartsville is a city in Darlington County, South Carolina, United States. It is located at the intersection of Interstates 95 and 20, approximately 60 miles northeast of Columbia, the state capital. The city has a population of around 7,764 (2010 census) and is known for its strong economy and educational institutions. Hartsville has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. The average temperature in July is 83°F (28°C), while the average temperature in January is 45°F (7°C). The city was founded in 1855 as a railroad town and was named after William Jasper Harts, a local landowner.
