Hanhofen is a municipality in the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis district, in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is located in the Upper Rhine Valley, on the left bank of the Rhine River, approximately 10 km (6.2 mi) south of Ludwigshafen. The municipality has a population of around 6,500 people and covers an area of 5.3 km² (2.0 sq mi). The climate is temperate, with average temperatures ranging from 0°C (32°F) in January to 20°C (68°F) in July. The average annual precipitation is 700 mm (28 in). Hanhofen was first mentioned in a document from 771 AD. The municipality has a rich history, with evidence of human settlement dating back to the Neolithic period. The municipality is home to a number of historical buildings, including the 12th-century St. Martin's Church and the 18th-century Hanhofen Castle.
